Meet the Makers

How did you get interested/started in your creative field?

From a young age I’ve been fascinated with the power of makeup and clothing to express and alter who we are; both how we feel about ourselves and how others respond to us. I started this business in part, to share that knowledge with people who might feel intimidated or left behind by the ‘beauty’ world.

My goal is to ensure my clients never have to worry about doing their makeup “wrong”. I want them to look in the mirror with love and acceptance.

How did you get interested/started in your creative field?

Almost 20 years ago when I was studying biology in Mexico. I wanted to mobilize communities towards environmental conservation and the best way to do it was through art and upcycling activities. The technique I use is called Ludoplastia which means “playing with the shapes”. My artwork is based in the principle of playing with geometric shapes to represent any object in 3 dimensions using recycled materials such as corrugated cardboard and plastic bottles.

It had long been a dream to bring thoughtfully designed, handcrafted items from around the world into peoples’ homes.  Items that bring a little joy into everyday. Le Nid Curated Living has brought this to life.  Based in Foothills, Alberta, we work to create and source designs to nurture an elegant, simple yet refined style. It is exciting to see our pieces displayed in stores, seeing customers buy them and especially love seeing where they live in your homes.

Out of all your products, which is your personal favourite and why?

Spencer – My personal favourite right now is the “Voyager + Grey” combination. It has just enough design to stand out while still maintaining that minimalist feel to it

Tanner – “My favourite since the beginning (and still going strong) is the “Pioneer + Black”. I love the sleek look of the black on black combination and I feel it goes with any outfit, in any situation”

Out of all your products, which is your personal favourite and why?

Definitely my Real Leaf Earrings! I've made them in silver and gold for a few years now, and now I have them in Rose Gold (which I'm so excited about). They are super light and each leaf is totally one-of-a-kind, which is what I love about them! And right now, I'm inspired by the sights and sounds of spring popping up everywhere.

The dishcloths. They are the product line that we have the most fun with. We release 2 new designs each month based on the music we hear in the course of our day in the studio. It makes us happy to design a product that we both believe in and love using ourselves. Neither of us uses paper towels anymore.

Down by the Pond Fishing/Enchanted Forest Fairy Portraits are special to me because I loved to sit by the creek on our farm and drift into magical daydreams while listening to the creek and birds and feel the sun through the trees. I love recreating that feeling for children of today.
