This sculpture is called "Spiegelbild im Spiegel". The words mean "Reflection in Mirror in Mirror". The piece is intended to be a reflection of a modern day Amazon warrior.
The name is also a reflection of "Spiegel im Spiegel" by Arvo Pärt, a simple arpeggio on the piano combined with a slow-moving melody line from the violin.
When I began to think about how I could reflect similarity of structure without being exact, I had the idea to reflect my sculpture in an actual mirror and put an embedded image in the mirror as part of my art. This can be a contrast between what you actually see in the mirror and what you want to see in the mirror.
The mirror with the embedded image is mounted on a custom fabricated honey onyx stone so that it can be rotated in both the vertical and horizontal dimensions. You can adjust the reflection as you see fit.
The figurine was cast in natural bronze. Her sword is cast in white bronze. The bronze is polished but has an unadorned natural finish to retain a strong similarity with the etching. The bronze will slowly darken with age.
This is a sister sculpture to my related work "Bronzezeit".
The white bronze includes 58% copper, 1% lead and various amounts of manganese, zinc and aluminum. The natural bronze contains 90% copper and tin.
