A while back I watched a documentary on lemurs and was fascinated to learn about their complex social class system within each family. The documentary followed the life of one of the lowest-ranked females within a family and what her life was like trying to care for her baby. The higher class members got to eat the fruit from the top of the tree and were served by the other members of the family, while the lemurs at the bottom had to scrounge for fallen fruit at the bottom of the tree. How amazing it was learn about how complex their society is! We have lemurs at our local zoo and I had no idea they were so incredibly intelligent and social creatures. I was so inspired I had to paint me some lemurs!
