This sculpture is a bronze cast stagecoach complete with 4 bronze horses with harness.
This stagecoach is meant to be touched and used. It can be detached from the horses and played with as a unique piece of art.
The work was created over 6 months in 2019 as a tribute to the Western culture exemplified by Calgary and Alberta.
I wanted to create a sculpture that would be appropriate for the Calgary Stampede.
The stagecoach doors open and the stagecoach wheels turn. The boxes on top can be opened as can the box on the back of the coach.
The horse pairs can be detached from each other and the stagecoach.
The stagecoach and horses were cast in silicon bronze and given a liver of sulphur patina. The stagecoach wheels and boxes and horse harness were cast in yellow brass. The coach steps were cast with white bronze.
The work is mounted on 2.5 inch thick Santos Rosewood that has been naturally treated and oiled.
The white bronze includes 58% copper, 1% lead and various amounts of manganese, zinc and aluminum. The silicon bronze contains 95% Cu, 4% Si, 1% Mn. The yellow brass has 63% copper, 1% lead, and various amounts of zinc and tin.
